Admission Requirements for International Students

Entry requirements at Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) vary by level of study. Below are the general academic and English language criteria for international applicants:

Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum 75% average across four academic subjects (excluding Hindi or other local languages)

  • English language requirements:

    • IELTS: Overall score of 6.0 (no band below 5.5)

    • PTE: Overall score of 50 (no band below 42)

    • Bachelor of Nursing requires IELTS 6.5 in all bands or PTE 58 in all bands

Master’s degree

  • A relevant undergraduate degree from a recognized institution

  • English language requirements:

    • IELTS: Overall score of 6.5 (no band below 6.0)

    • PTE: Overall score of 58 (no band below 50)

Graduate diploma

  • Minimum 60% average across four academic subjects (excluding Hindi or local languages)

  • At least 60% in English

Scholarships and Financial Aid for International Students

International students meeting entry requirements for eligible 2025 programs can receive a $7,000 scholarship. Programs include Audio Production, Contemporary Music, Environmental Management, Hotel Management, Screen Arts, Sport & Exercise Science, Therapeutic & Sports Massage, Agriculture, and Cookery pathways. Available at Invercargill, Queenstown, and Telford campuses.
